this school year has been an incredibly difficult one for our richmond community, with many students being the direct and indirect victims of multiple incidents of gun violence in a school-related setting. our hearts are with the students, educators, families, and all those impacted by such senseless tragedy, and we’re committed to doing what we can as a children’s bookshop to support the healing process during this emotionally strenuous time.
collaborating with childsavers, a richmond non-profit counseling organization specializing in supporting youth trauma victims, we created a list of desired books for staff to offer alongside their crisis counselling and support services. starting with 25 books donated by our team, we are inviting you to help increase our donation if you’re able. simply follow the instructions below, and we’ll take care of the rest.

since 2010, bbgb has been committed to sharing books that are both mirrors and windows, where kids can see themselves on the page and discover worlds beyond their imagination.
too many kids lack access to books of their own. this is why we donate thousands of books each year to nonprofits who get real books into the hands of kids who need them most. among these organizations are richmond public school’s lit limo, little free diverse libraries, childsavers (specializing in supporting trauma victims), and soar365 (specializing in supporting children with disabilities).
there are multiple ways for you to donate. You can: choose a book from our collection below, purchase a gift card if you’d like us to make the choice, participate in 10fold, or purchase a piece of art in our window tales display.
